Gitl says to Chaya “You are a name, not a number. Never forget that name, whatever they tell you here.” What does she mean? How does this go against what the Nazis want? Explain.

She means not to give up and remember who you are. Chaya isn’t a number the people tell her, she is Chaya. The Nazi’s want power over them but if you still remember who you are you will have a better chance at surviving.

She means to never give up on wat you beleive in and to always remember. She wants her to never loose power of her own life. She wants her to have hope

The Nazi’s want the names to be like J18905 or whatever, but Gitl wants Chaya/Hannah to always remember her own name.

The Nazi’s thought the Jews had no point in living they didn’t want them to exist so by making them a number and not a name they were no longer who they used to be… I THINK IT IS HORRIBLE WHAT THEY DID!!!! Gitl wanted Hannah to know that she is whoever she remembers herself as and not to remember the number…

She wants her to feel like she might someday be freed and she also wants her to not forget everything about her old life. this goes against what the Nazis want because they want everybody to forget their past so it will be easier to control them.
